Adventist Health Castle | Windward Health | Summer 2021

Ryan Ashlock; his wife, Elle; and their daughter, Emmy, are loving Kailua life. ALOHA, WINDWARD O‘AHU: It has been a little over two years since this community warmly welcomed my wife, Elle; my daughter, Emmy; and me. We relocated to Hawai‘i after the hospital I was working at, Adventist Health Feather River, and its surrounding community were devastated by the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California. We have been blessed to see firsthand what many of you already know so well—the spirit of aloha is a way of life. While it’s only been a few months since I’ve taken on the role of president at Adventist Health Castle, I can confidently say that the future of our organization is bright. Our incredible care providers are some of the best in the industry. They treat our patients with skill, compassion, efficiency and kindness. With their Love matters continued commitment to excellence and our ongoing expansion of services and investment into our community, Castle is the easy choice for care, close to home. Award-winning care As you read through this issue of Windward Health , you’ll see a lot of great reasons to choose Castle. We remain committed to top-quality care, exemplified by our most recent rating from The Leapfrog Group. We received an “A” grade in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Castle’s achievements protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections. Additionally, we achieved the Healthgrades 2021 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This distinction places Castle among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience for a ninth consecutive year (2013–2021). New technology, like the latest version of the da Vinci surgery system and world-class imaging equipment, ensures that we can care for even the most complex cases. Early cancer detection saves lives, and our AHEAD program, a form of cancer prevention, will save even more lives. We also have a variety of classes and seminars to help you find the solutions and care you need. Leading such a prestigious organization is a great privilege and responsibility that I don’t take lightly. I am excited to guide Castle into the next phase of growth. Our mission of “Living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope” is a lofty goal—but one that our team is meeting and will continue to meet for decades to come. Mahalo, Ryan Ashlock President, Adventist Health Castle The Ashlocks moved to Hawai‘i after a California wildfire ruined their hometown. 2 | WINDWARD HEALTH
