The most common reasons patients visit a urologist are bothersome urinary symptoms, enlarged prostate and kidney stones. Other reasons to visit a urologist include prostate cancer screening, blood in the urine and sexual dysfunction. “One of the most satisfying things I’ve done in my career as a urologist is improve a patient’s quality of life,” says Dr. Carlile. “Whether it is treating a patient’s painful and recurrent kidney stones, a new diagnosis of prostate cancer or an unending urge to urinate, knowing I can impact their life positively is very satisfying.” New to Castle Dr. Witmer recently joined Dr. Carlile in practice and is intent on helping people address these conditions that can easily be treated. “I certainly appreciate that discussing intimate health issues may be embarrassing and uncomfortable,” says Dr. Witmer. “I want patients to know I care about their concerns and am here to assist them in whatever way that I can. I encourage those with symptoms or concerns to be evaluated. Early intervention helps return many patients to health, and for others it may reveal a more serious underlying health condition requiring additional treatments.” The needs of every patient vary, and our specialists create individualized care plans, providing medical or surgical intervention as appropriate.
